FITNESS FOR BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU

One of the common questions we receive from individuals interested in BJJ is, “What if I’m not in shape?” To which we always reply:

You don’t have to be in shape to get started, but you do have to get started to get in shape. 

We always encourage anyone looking to try BJJ not to worry about being out of shape. We’ve had members sign up even though they could barely finish the 10- minute warm up. Within 6 months, however, they were completing 90-minute classes, participating in all the grappling, and coming back for more. Just focus on micro-goals and you WILL make progress.

Physical fitness is an integral part of BJJ training—the more in-shape you are, the better you’ll perform. The United Legion BJJ gym in Altamonte Springs is designed to provide you with the equipment you need to improve your overall strength, flexibility, and endurance. In turn this will improve your performance in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

THE FACILITY

At our gym we have a 600 square foot fitness area, which includes:

  • Two squat racks with pull-up bars
  • Space for deadlifting
  • Barbells, dumbbells, and kettlebells
  • An assault bike, rower, and jump ropes
  • A glute and hamstring developer (GHD)
  • Sand bags, medicine balls, and more…
 
GYM SCHEDULE

Also, the weightlifting area will be “open gym” during all scheduled BJJ classes. Whether during kid or adult classes, as a member you’re free to use the equipment to warm up or complete a full workout.
